DERELICT AND WORLDMIND

Written by Frilly Wumpus
Thursday, 27 April 2006

I’d like to announce that Project Britannia has found it’s way into some new development efforts.

First off, Lone Knight from the Dungeon Siege modification “Derelict” has announced that they plan on using some of the Project Britannia systems within their mod.

“The summer ’06 upcoming siegelet Derelict will be using a great deal from Brittania. I have been following developments in Brittania for a while, and just recently finished testing out M2. Many attributes of Brittania content will be extremely useful for Derelict, and will indefinately make the siegelet better to play and experience. ” — Lone Knight

Derelict is part of the RPG Network

Second, Roughboy has been working on what he calls an “adversary engine” within his WorldMind project.

“the “worldmind database” is a database that holds all the knowledge and logical rules that run the engine and the game world.

the “aspect engine” is the game engine itself, with which the worldmind communicates to represent the state of things in the worldmind database. the aspect engine handles all the graphics, sound, etc… it is, essentially, the game, whereas the worldmind database is the a.i. engine for the game.”

He is using Project Britannia as a base and is also looking for others interested in helping him out.  See WorldMind for more information.

STILL MORE U6 SITE ISSUES

Written by Zephyr
Thursday, 20 April 2006

Unfortunately, the U6 Project is running into some web hosting problems. Again. So what else is new. The good news is that they’re moving to a new, supposedly much more robust web server. I hear that they’re also going to be revamping the website somewhat, so you might see a new look when they get back online. In the meantime, you can still keep track of them on Project Britannia’s forums.

PROJECT BRITANNIA M2 RELEASED

Written by Frilly Wumpus
Wednesday, 05 April 2006

We are proud to announce that the 2nd Milestone of Project Britannia has just been uploaded to the File Section.  This release contains all of the enhancements and fine tuning that has been done over the last 5 months of development on the Ultima 6 Project and Ultima V:Lazarus.

Some of the changes that have been made are:
– Totally revamped alignment system.  All alignment system calculations have been simplified to be based upon an NPCs “Ruling Faction”.  Setting up alignment situations has now become much easier.
– Combat system improvements – Combat and defense calculations have been tuned
– Stabilized every major system: Boats, Moongates, Grapples, Scheduling
– Massive tuning and balancing of Spell system, monsters, weapons, and armor
– New market system allowing shopkeepers to determine what they will or will not buy as well as dynamic pricing
– Hundreds of fixes and tunings.

*Note: To save some download time …and our servers , the contents of Project Britannia M2 are the same as what is being released with Ultima V:Lazarus.  If you already have Ultima V:Lazarus, you can simply copy the following files into your Project Britannia directory:
* britannia_logic.dsres
* britannia_art.dsres
* britannia_sound.dsres

Also note that the map for Project Britannia M2 is the same as the map distributed with Project Britannia M1 with the exception of some new docking points on the island of Buccaneer’s Den.

In related news, the Project Britannia wiki has been opened up to be editable by registered forum users.  There isn’t much there at the moment, but if any early adopters wish to share their findings and experience it’s available.  Since Project Britannia is also the core of Ultima V:Lazarus, we also welcome any Lazarus modders who may wish to dig a bit deeper into how all the systems fit together.

Enjoy!

We’re very pleased to relay that the Lazarus Team has released Ultima V:Lazarus v1.20Final

From www.U5Lazarus.com :

“This is it, folks–we’ve fixed the bugs, we’ve added lots of new cool stuff, we’ve shuffled around secrets so that the game will still be fresh for those of you who already played 1.0 or 1.1, and we’ve added a shiny new level of polish and combat balance tweaks across the whole world.”

Head over to the Lazarus Website for more information and download links.

Congratulations Team Lazarus!!!

U6 PROJECT M1 RELEASE

Written by Zephyr
Sunday, 19 February 2006

The U6 Project has released U6 Milestone 1, and it is now available via FilePlanet for your downloading pleasure. To install, download the .zip file, and extract it into a temporary folder. Then, run the setup.exe program. It will set up all your shortcuts for you. Milestone 1 will take you through character generation, the opening sequence, Lord British’s castle, and the sewers below. Please leave feedback in the forums.

A few notes: If you have trouble getting it running, check the following:

  1. Remove all junk from your My Documents\Dungeon Siege\Bits folder.
  2. Check to make sure there aren’t any stray .dsres or .dsmod files in Program Files\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege\Resources or Program Files\Microsoft Games\Dungeon Siege\mods.

U6 PROJECT UP AND RUNNING

Written by Zephyr
Tuesday, 14 February 2006

The U6 Project website seems to be back up at both the u6project.com and u6archon.com addresses, so all of your links should continue to work as before. Whew! That was a pain.

I’ve also added a “Feeds” section that mirrors news from other websites. If you want your news feed added to this section, let me know.

Speaking of news, here’s a bit from the U5 Lazarus website:

First of all, don’t panic, we’re still hard at work on the 1.2 (final release) patch and it should be ready in just a few more weeks. Secondly, here’s something cool: Lazarus was mentioned in the new article of my favorite webzine, THE ESCAPIST

Be sure to check it out! 🙂

U6 DOMAIN ISSUES AND M1 RELEASE

Written by Zephyr
Monday, 13 February 2006

The U6 team is still having trouble with their website, but you can still access it through the link:

http://u6project.laymeduck.com

Unfortunately, these website troubles couldn’t have come at a worse time, since they’re about to release what they call “M1”. M1 is a showcase of the first part of the game, which will get you into Lord British’s castle and the sewers. They plan on releasing it next Sunday, barring any unforeseen circumstances, and hopefully, if you can find the website, you’ll know about it.

The U6 Project still needs one more world builder, and as always, they need portrait artists. As always, if you can help out, let Zephyr know.

U6 PROJECT ISSUES & LAZARUS PATCHES

Written by Zephyr
Sunday, 05 February 2006

The U6 Team is very much still active, but their website seems to be flaking out due to me, I’m afraid. I’m trying to take ownership of their domains and the ISPs involved are getting very confused. Thus, no domains until that gets worked out. You can still access the U6 website through this link:
http://u6project.laymeduck.com

We’re hoping to have the domains u6project.com and u6archon.com back up and running soon.

I also wanted to take a moment to note that Lazarus has a patch out (1.1a) and they are hard at work on 1.2, which will most likely be their final release. There will be many Project Britannia fixes included in 1.2, so this is exciting for all of us involved.

U5 LAZARUS HAS BEEN RELEASED!

U5 Lazarus has released their mod, making it the first mod released that uses Project Britannia as a base.  For more information and a link to the download page, see their website:

http://www.u5lazarus.com

Be sure to rave about it in our forums, or post stuff directly in theirs.  If we have the bandwidth, we’ll be mirroring it here as well.  More info to come later.  Happy holidays!
